Abstract

1399107 Moisture activated window cleaning G C Baylis 23 Aug 1972 39301/72 Heading G1N [Also in Division H1] Power driven window cleaning devices such as vehicle window wipers are operated when moisture is detected by a water activated primary cell. In Figs. 2 and 3 the cell comprises a perforated copper anode 22 separated from a zinc cathode 24 by a perforated layer of insulation 23. When moisture is present the potential difference set up by the cell is amplified by the three transistors and activates relay 33 to whose contact 34 a windscreen wiper motor 21 is connected. A heater 26 is mounted by insulation 25 on the cell to dry it, this heater also being activated by relay 33, via variable resistor 36. The wipers thus operate until a given time after moisture reaches the cell, depending on the drying rate of the heater. The system may be rendered inoperative by switch 37 across the cell. The cell may be placed so that a jet from the windscreen washers will hit it, so that the wipers are automatically activated when the washers are used. Cell materials; the following are specifically referred to: a zinc or zinc coated steel cathode with an anode of brass, gold, nickel plated brass, stainless steel or silver; a zinc, magnesium, magnesium alloy or zinc alloy cathode and a-copper anode; a steel or stainless steel cathode and an . aluminium anode.
