Abstract

1398924 Automatic control of knitting machines WILDT MELLOR BROMLEY Ltd 7 March 1973 [9 March 1972] 11130/72. Heading G3N A computer is programmed to generate from pattern information in a random access store information for controlling a knitting machine to repeat a pattern section a predetermined number of times before the information is overwritten for a succeeding pattern section. As shown, data blocks from a random access store 42 comprising a magnetic tape or disc are accessed by commands set up on a keyboard 20, through a computer control 22, and temporarily stored in portions 28, 30 of a computer core store 40. The pattern information in portions 28, 30 are alternately transferred to a machine order portion 26 from which they are transferred via an interface 32 to a circular knitting machine 34 having a machine control 36. In an alternative arrangement the random access store is provided by a portion 24 of the core store. The information in the random access store is transferred alternately as partial data block to the portions 28, 30 and held in computer order form. The data from each block is sequentially read out and transferred to portion 26, to overwrite a used instruction, in machine-order form. The contents of the portion 26 are then used to control the knitting machine for a repeated pattern.
