Abstract

1398744 Cabinets RONEO VICKERS Ltd 12 Sept 1973 [15 Sept 1972] 42931/72 Heading A4B An article of furniture comprises end walls 1, 2 having grooves 16 for a roller shutter and grooves 6 for receiving a continuous sheet of rigid material which forms at least the bottom 5 and the back 4 of the article, the walls 1, 2 being releasably retained in position by rods 17. The ends of the rods are engaged by nuts covered by decorative buttons 19. The end walls 1, 2 are preferably moulded from synthetic resin, and the sheet of rigid material may also form the top 3 of the article and it may provide a bottom flat part 15 slotted for engagement by a latch on the shutter. Small bores 20 to receive selftapping screws are provided in the walls 1, 2 for attaching runners for shelves, drawers, filing frames or trays. The runners may be channels for receiving nylon glides 23 on drawer runners 22, or two or three piece extending runners 24. The shutter may close both the top and the front of the article. The end walls 1, 2 may each be made of two parts, a shallow tray-like outer part with turned up edges and an inner part forming the grooves. Runners may be moulded on the side walls 1, 2, Figs. 2 and 5a to g (not shown), and upright partitions also having runners may subdivide the article interior and be held in position by horizontal bars (29, 30) engaging the walls 1, 2 and the partitions. In another embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), two trays (32, 33) are carried in a rectangular frame (34) which is adapted to fit into a cabinet (36) length on or into a second cabinet (35) width on, and a third cabinet (37) is adapted to receive one of the trays only. When the roller shutter is not used pivot pins or hinges may be secured to the end walls 1, 2 or the sheet of rigid material for supporting hinged doors, or sliding doors may be fitted in grooves in the sheet of rigid material or in members positioned above and below the front opening in the article of furniture. The article may be hung on a wall or suspended from the top of a pedestal desk or stand on the floor. One article may be stacked on another and held together by cranked straps, Figs. 6a, 6b (not shown). When the roller shutter is not used the groove 16 on one of the end walls may accommodate a locking member having projections for engaging drawers and operable by a lock.
