Abstract

1398613 Loom shedding motions W E N LAURITSEN 6 June 1972 [9 June 1971] 26360/ 72 Heading D1E A shedding motion for loom healds comprises, for each heald 114, a selector pin 108 connected thereto and movable longitudinally therewith, the pin being guided in a channel in the heald, a selection device including a pin 121 positionable to engage or not the selector pin, and a pair of catch members, e.g. formed by shoulders on part 101 of pin 108, an upwardly movable control bar 115 operable to engage or move the upper catch member upwards, a downwardly movable control bar operable to engage and move the lower catch member downwards, the bars being common to a plurality of selector pins and healds, and the bars and catch members being so arranged that, for each held, one or other of the catch members at a time can be engaged with its associated bar according to whether or not the selector pin engages its associated selection pin 121, each control bar being positioned transversely of the said plurality of healds and being arranged for upward and downward movements, the catch members and control bars being arranged for relative lateral movement, and cams being provided to effect said relative lateral movement. A spring 103 urges its associated selector pin 108 upwards. Drive and return bars 105, 117 move up and down coincidently with bars 115, 116, respectively. The operating phases, e, f, a, b, c and d are as follows:-e: the left heald has moved up from bottom sheet position and the right heald has moved down from top sheet position; f the left heald moves towards the top end of its stroke and the right heald becomes engaged via flange 119 with upwardly moving bar 117; a both healds are in an initial selecting position; b part 101 of the left heald is forced to the left due to inclined cam faces on pin 108 and heald 114 and the right heald is held due to engagement of its pin 108 with pin 121; c the left heald rises due to engagement of the upper catch member with rising bar 115 whilst downward movement of bar 116 causes the bar to abut the lower catch member and the catch member to abut the heald; d bars 115, 116 move apart and raise the left heald to upper sheet position and the right heald to lower sheet position, that is a fully open sheet condition. The selection pin 121 may have a further leg 122 and be pivoted on pin 123 and is movable by patterning means to either of two positions in one of which pin 121 engages pin 108 and in the other of which pin 108 is held by leg 122 (see left heald in phase d), thereby keeping that heald in top sheet position. In a modification, each pin 108 is fixed to its heald.
