Abstract

1398596 Milking parlours HOSIER EQUIPMENT (COLLINGBOURNE) LTD 23 July 1973 [3 May 1972] 20590/72 Heading AIM A rotary milking parlour comprises an intermittently rotated circular platform 10 provided with wedge-shaped barriers 11 dividing it into radially extending bays 12. The underside of the platform 10 is provided with an annular track engaging eight wheels which, together with a bearing member, support the platform. The wheels are each supported in a pedestal stand bolted to the floor. The platform is driven by an electric motor acting through gearing to drive rollers which are spring biassed to engage the track. A switching system controls the motor. The track carries cams which contact one of the switches when the platform 10 has rotated through the angle between the centres of the bays 12. A fence 25 divides a bridge 22 which leads to the platform 10 into an entrance 23 and an exit 24. To prevent rotation of the platform if a cow is partly on the platform and partly on the bridge, the fence 25 is provided with a pivoted arm which actuates a stop switch, and a fence of the inlet 23 has a stop switch attached. Further emergency stop buttons are provided off the platform. The radially inner end of each barrier 11 is connected to a breast rail 13 and located radially inwardly of the rail are mangers. A stationary rump rail 15 extends around the platform except at the inlet and outlet points 23, 24. A fixed nozzle may be located at the exit to spray water to clean the bay and indicate to the cow it must leave. Preferably the platform 10 is upwardly inclined towards its axis. Extending around the periphery of the platform 10 is a downwardly extending skirt which overlaps an annular wall and prevents water reaching below the platform. Another embodiment comprises an annular platform with a "herringbone" configuration of stalls. Where the apparatus is intended to be used by one person an odd number of bays may be provided and the platform caused to rotate in two-bay movements, each cow being sent round twice.
