Abstract

1398537 Electronic watches BULOVA WATCH CO Inc 22 Aug 1972 [27 Aug 1971] 39143/72 Headings G4D D7X D6Y D6C1 and D6C2 The high frequency standard for a timepiece operates at a frequency less than an ideal frequency and additional pulses are injected into a frequency divider arrangement to provide a number of useable pulses in a set time that equals the number obtainable from the ideal frequency source. The frequency source 10, which conveniently is a crystal controlled oscillator, supplies a main divider section 11 consisting of n stages of binary division connected in series which supplies a display 12 which may be a liquid crystal, electroluminescent or mechanical time indicator. The output is also supplied to a supplementary divider 13 which has m stages and supplies a pre-set section 14 which is connected to the inputs of L stages of the main divider. Thus over a set time the number of deficient pulses is added in either as an initial setting to the divider for each set time or by distributing them evenly during the set time. The number to be added can be pre-set in the divider by making specific connections or alternatively by providing a memory circuit, including bi-stable elements, which can be externally set to regulate the timing. It is stated that a radio-active source emitting α-particles may be used as the frequency source.
