Abstract
1398085 Fluid-flow measurement: pressure measurement H M KENDALL 30 May 1972 [23 June 1971] 29437/71 Headings G1L GIN and GIR [Also in Division H1] In a device for sensing the formation of ice in an I.C. engine carburetter, a first passage 5 applies a pressure, corresponding to the static pressure or the static pressure less a vacuum pressure derived from the velocity of air flowing through the carburetter air duct 2, and a second passage 4 applies a second or total head pressure, corresponding to the combination the static and dynamic pressure derived from the air velocity flowing through the air duct 2, to a sensing means to give an indication and/or to effect a control upon the total head pressure falling to the static pressure due to obstruction of the second passage 4, by the formation of ice. In the device shown in Fig. 1 the passages 4 and 5 apply the pressure to opposite sides of a diaphragm 7 to close contacts 13 and operate a light 21 should ice form on saw cuts 17, Fig.4, formed on the end 16 of duct 4 projecting into the air duct 2. In alternative embodiments Figs.6 and 7-10 (not shown) the first and second pressure operates on opposite ends of a magnetized piston to actuate a light. The Specification also states that high temperature coefficient electrical resistance may be used as the sensing device.
