Abstract

1397926 Gas burners SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 19 June 1972 [21 June 1971] 28953/71 Heading F4T A gas burner for use in the heat treatment of sheet material comprises a plate 1 provided with at least eight rows of burner ports lying within an area of the plate having the shape of a parallelogram, the rows extending parallel to one pair of sides of the parallelogram and the ports being staggered so that their centres lie on a line parallel to the other pair of sides. The plate 1 forms the top of a distribution chamber to which a combustible gas mixture is supplied. The ports comprise main flame ports 6 and smaller stabilizing flame ports 7 which are covered by flame stabilizing strips 8, preferably of metal, spaced from the plate by distance pieces (10, Fig. 3, not shown). The term "parallelogram" as used in the Specification is defined to exclude a rectangle or square.
