Abstract
1397909 Line Guide Attachments SHAKESPEARE CO 3 Aug 1973 36975/73 Heading A1A A line guide 12, is fastened to a fishing rod blank 11 by means of a resinated tape 15, having a pair of ends bonded to each other along a joint 18 parallel to the rod blank. The tape is initially secured to the rod under tension by means of the clamp 23, following which, the resin is cured in an oven thereby bonding the tape to the rod. The resin impregnated tape, which may be made of a cloth woven of cotton fill threads and polyester warp threads is initially coated with a plastics film 20, of greater width than the tape, this has the effect of moulding the tape to the rod and of preventing the resin from adhering to the jaws of the clamp; it is removed when curing is complete. Before fastening the tape, the resin may be partially cured to a 'B' stage for ease of handling. The method may be extended to secure simultaneously, a plurality of line guides to rod blanks. After trimming of the tape, the entire rod, guides and fastening may be coated with varnish.
