Abstract

1397730 Comminuting apparatus BRITISH OXYGEN CO LTD 10 Oct 1972 [26 Oct 1971] 49660/71 Heading B2A Comminuting apparatus breaks into fragments the embrittled rubber or plastics cover of a wire permitting separation of the wire and cover. Wire is cooled in a hopper 2 Fig 1 by a cryogenic liquid e.g. nitrogen, or its vapour and delivered via a screw feeder 6 to a swing hammer mill 4. Where the cover material is comminuted and subsequently separated from the wire. Alternatively the material may be fed to a mill having a knife rotor 34 Fig 2 which cooperates with knives 38 to cut up the wire and comminutes the embrittled cover, the material being delivered to a separator via a screw in the casing 30.
