Abstract
1397724 Ion-exchange material NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 29 Aug 1972 [1 June 1971] 18279/71 Heading B1J A particulate ion-exchange material is produced from a weathered basalt containing in total at least 20% of one or more minerals by mechanical comminution and subsequent screening thereof whereby at least 50% by weight of the material consists of particles of size below 3 cm mesh, the X-ray powder diffraction diagram of which basalt exhibiting an intesity maximum corresponding to a lattice spacing between 12 and 18 Angstroms. Examples relate to granules having sizes between 0.3 and 0.7 mm of a substance known as "Rotten Rock" which occurs in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, used for removing Cu and Co from aqueous solutions, for softening water, and for removing radioactive Cs from milk.
