Abstract

Rulers; squares.-A device attached to the stock of a T-square has a hand-operated ratchet by which uniform step-by-step motion is given to the T- square so that equidistant hatching lines can be drawn. In Fig. 1 the plate 1 screwed to the underside of the stock has two friction wheels 4 and 5 which bear on the edge of the drawing- board. Successive small movements are imparted to the friction-wheel 4 to advance the T-square by means of a lever 12 carrying a pawl 9 acting upon a ratchet-wheel 6 fast with the wheel 4; a pawl 19 locks the ratchet-wheel 6 on release of the lever 8. The limit of movement of the lever 8 is varied by the adjusting-screw 13. Adjustment may also be obtained by means of interchangeable ratchet wheels of different pitch. The flat of the T-square may be constructed to swivel on a locking-bolt to allow of hatching being done at any angle.
