1397214 Folding edges of sheet material ZAVODY PRESNEHO STROJIRENSTVI GOTTWALDOV NARODNI PODNIK 26 Oct 1973 [12 Dec 1972] 50042 73 Heading B5K Apparatus for folding and lasting an edge of a shoe upper 45 and its glueing to a midsole 44 comprises a feeding tapered wheel 4 rotatably and non-adjustably mounted on a frame 1; a folding tapered wheel 14 mounted above and adjacent to the wheel 4, the wheel 14 being adjustable as to its distance from the wheel 4 and its angular position relative to an axis 141 which is perpendicular to a plane containing an arcuate guide 8 for a segment 9 and which axis bisects a contact zone between linear contact surfaces on the wheels 4, 14; and a roller 28 adapted to support the midsole 44, the roller 28 being positioned adjacent the wheel 4 and forced by a spring 29 to an adjustable end position determined by a stop 31 in a plane containing the linear contact surface of the wheel 4. As shown, the segment 9 is retained by a cover 10 in the guide 8 of a transverse beam 6 slidable in a vertical guide 6 on the frame 1. The wheel 14 has an anti-friction surface 38 and is carried by a shaft 13 mounted in a body 12 on the segment 9. Freely rotatable tapered wheels 15, 16 and a circular trimming knife 17 are mounted on a hub of the wheel 14, the knife 17 being connected by a key 18 for rotation with the wheel 14. The piston-rod 41 of a cylinder and-piston unit 40 is fixed to a lug 24 of the beam 6. The roller 28 is mounted on a pivot 27 having an-arm 26 pivoted to the bearing 2 of the shaft 3 by a pin 25. A tension spring 29 extends between the arm 26 and a hanger 30 on the bearing 2 on which an adjusting screw 31 and a locking nut 32 are mounted. Openings 33 with stop pins 34 are provided in the beam 6 and the cover 10. Instead of one screw 11 fastening the cover 10 to the beam 6, there is provided a pintle 35 on which is swingably mounted on adjustable cylinder- and-piston unit 42 having a piston-rod 36 attached to a hinged pin 37 firmly pressed into the segment 9. The midsole 44 and the upper 45 are clamped on a last 43 and the edge of the upper is stretched and folded and pressed on to the midsole 44, to which a cold glue has been applied, by the wheels 4, 14, 15, 16. The knife 17 cuts away an edge of the upper 45 but the midsole 44 remains uncut.
