Class 60 A double-headed glazing machine for cutlery comprises two pairs of rollers 1, 13 and 1a, 13a mounted on parallel axes, each pair of rollers being adapted to carry an endless band 16, 16a, and the two pairs being so disposed relatively to each other that the abrasive surfaces of the bands are' brought into opposition to each other at a gap, means for driving one of the rollers carrying each band so that both bands move in the same direction at the sides of the gap, a support 37 for work near the gap between the bands, and means for moving the band at one side of the gap towards and away from the band at the other side of the gap. A flanged roller 1 is carried on an overhung shaft 2 driven directly by an electric motor 3 carried by a supporting plate 4 pivoted horizontally at 5 to a main supporting plate 6. The plate 6 is carried on a horizontal pivot shaft 7 journalled at 8 and screwing into a block 9; the shaft 7 carries a hand-wheel 10. The plate 6 carries a bearing bracket 11 for a shaft 12 carrying a second flanged roller 13. The plate 6 also carries a bracket 14 for a convex backing plate 15 which, together with the rollers 1. 13, serves to carry an endless glazing band 16; a slot 17 in the bracket 14 provides for adjustment of the backing plate 15. The band 16 is tensioned by a screw 33, with hand-wheel 34, passing through the plate 6 to bear against the plate 4. The bearing bracket 11 carries a pivot pin 18 passing through the inner end 19 of a screwed rod 20 threaded in the bore of an adjusting spindle 21 rotatable by a hand-wheel 22. The spindle 21 is rotatable in a block 23 pivotally carried on the yoke end 24 of one arm 25 of a bell-crank lever pivoted at 27. The other arm 28 of the bell-crank lever is connected by a link 30 to a pedal 31 urged upwardly by a spring 32. Rotation of the hand-wheel 22 swings the plate 6 about the pivot 7 to adjust the backing plate 15 with respect to the centre of the machine. Depression of the pedal 31 moves the adjusted backing plate 15 towards the centre of the machine, the return movement being effected by the spring 32. A second glazing band 16a passes around rollers 1a, 13a and backing plate 15a, adjustment of the plate 15a with respect to the centre of the machine being effected by a hand-wheel 22a. The rollers 1, 1a, 13 13a are enclosed by a guard 35 having an opening 36 to expose the backing plates 15, 15a. Below the backing plate 15a is a work support consisting of a bracket 37 carrying two upright stems 38 each having a roller 39; the blade 40 of a knife to be glazed is placed on edge on the rollers 39 and -is moved up and down by a movement of the support from a crank 42 on a shaft 43 driven through belt 45 from a motor 46, a slide block 48 of the support carried in guides 49 being connected to the crank rod 47 which is adjustable in length to bring the rollers 39 to any desired height with respect to the backing plates 15, 15a.
