Abstract

1397061 Dolls &c M I GLASS [trading as MARVIN GLASS & ASSOCIATES] 31 Oct 1973 [6 Nov 1972] 50663/73 Heading A6S A doll &c, changes the expression on its face as it is moved from a seated position, Figs 2, 3, to a standing position, Fig 5, and vice versa. The doll has a one-piece flexible outer covering 36 filled with beans, &c. A string 62 is secured at its lower end 64 to the bottom of the covering 36 and at its upper end 68 to an operating rod 66. When the doll is raised to the standing position, the string 62 is tightened to pull downwards the operating rod 66 and thus turn a lever 70, journalled upon a support 72 in the dolls head 18, from the Figs 2, 3 to the Fig 5 position. A yoke 84 pivoted to the end of the lever 70 is thus raised. Simultaneously a support plate 88 connected by a pivot 90 to the yoke 84, is tilted upon its mounting pin 46, Fig 7. Simulated eyes 44 on the front of the support plate 88 are thus turned from a raised, sad expression with their irises 44a, Fig 6, partly hidden, to a lowered position with their irises pointed forwards. Two cheek simulating discs 50, Figs 6, 8, 9, in front of the doll's head 18, are journalled by pins 52 extending into the head and having forks 58 embracing pins 80 at the sides of the yoke 84. Accordingly when the yoke 84 is raised, as described, the two cheek discs 50 are rotated. A resilient strip 60, Fig 6, is secured at its ends to the cheek discs 50, so that as they turn, the strip is raised from its lower position, simulating a sad expression, to its raised position (shown in full lines) simulating a happy expression.
