Abstract
1396955 Non-woven fabric MITSUI PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRIES LTD 11 Aug 1972 [12 Aug 1971 24 April 1972 21 June 1972] 37591/72 Heading D1R [Also in Division C3] Non-woven fabrics are prepared by a process which comprises continuously melt spinning a composition comprising a crystalline propylene polymer, taking up the continuous filaments produced at a speed of 2000 to 5000 metres per minute, and forming the filaments into a non-woven web, the compositions initially comprising 0.0001 to 1 weight per cent, based on the crystalline propylene polymer, of a molecular weight adjusting agent selected from halogen- and/or acid amide-substituted diphenyl disulphides and halogen- and/or acid amide-substituted bivalent metal dithiophenates wherein the metal is zinc, cadmium, calcium or copper, the composition having been heated to above 200‹C either before or during melt spinning. The propylene polymer may be a homopolymer, or a random or graft copolymer with another olefin, vinyl aromatic compound, vinyl acetate, unsaturated acid or vinyl pyridine; and may be in admixture with conventional stabilisters, light absorbers, colorants, lubricants, anti-static agents, dyesites and flame retardants. In examples polypropylene is heated with di(orthobenzamidophenyl)disulphide, zinc 2, 4-dichlorothiophenate, zinc 2- benzamidothiophenate, zinc 2, 3, 4, 5,6-pentachlorothiophenate and di(2, 3, 4, 5, 6-pentachlorophenyl)disulphide. The filaments may be collected directly on a collecting screen or belt at random.
