Abstract

1396212 Liquid treatment of fibre slivers PAVENA AG 2 Feb 1973 [9 Feb 1972] 5247/ 73 Heading D1L Apparatus for impregnating a textile fibre assembly 13 with a liquid comprises a pair of contra-rotating discs 1, 2, two rigid lateral cover plates 3, 4 which form with the discs a compression zone D through which the fibre assembly passes, and inlets 9 and 10 in the cover plates for the introduction of impregnation liquid to the faces of the discs and hence to the compression zone D, the disc-facing surfaces of the cover plates 3 and 4 converging towards the discs 1 and 2 in the vicinity of the compression zone D such that each face forms with its corresponding disc an angle α. Preferably the ange α is between 3‹ and 30‹. In the Figures the converging faces are formed by suitable machining at the inward facing surfaces of the plates 3 and 4 and extend over a distance A approximately equal to the separation of the disc axes 8', 8" and, in the direction of fibre travel, over a distance G equal to the length of the compression zone D plus the length E of a fibre collecting zone formed upstream of the lip of the discs and the length F of the output zone of the apparatus. In alternative embodiments the converging surfaces of the plates are formed by inserts (32), (33) which are of a harder material (e.g metal, ceramics, ruby or sapphire) than the remainder of the cover plates (Figs 5 and 6, not shown) or by inserting wedge shaped separators (21), (22) at the input side of the discs between the otherwise parallel surfaced cover plates (Figs 3 and 4, not shown).
