Abstract

1396125 Finished paper KANEGAFUCHI KAGAKU KOGYO KK 22 June 1972 29288/ 72 Heading D2B [Also in Division B2] Finished paper suitable for use in the manufacture of casings for packaging foodstuffs e.g. ham and sausages is made by impregnating an absorbent cellulosic paper base with an alkaline solution of cellulose xanthate, subjecting the impregnated paper base to treatment with an alcohol to regenerate cellulose in and/or on the paper base, and washing and drying the treated paper, the treatment being such that the amount of regenerated cellulose deposited in and/or on the paper base ranges from 20- 70 g/m<SP>2</SP>. Powdery polyvinyl alcohol may be used in the manufacture of the base paper from Manila hemp fibres.
