Abstract

1395956 Suspended ceiling panel UNITED STATES GYPSUM CO 31 July 1972 [29 July 1971] 35736/72 Headings E1B and E1W A ceiling panel 20a or 20b having a width greater than that which is self-supporting has a flat, longitudinal member 40a or 40b secured to its rear face so as to extend the entire distance between two opposite edges of the panel and a reinforcing beam 64 detachably secured along the length of the member. The member 40a may be a flat plate with a bent over flange 42a retentively receiving the beam 64. Alternatively, the member 40b may have longitudinally spaced slots 50b retentively receiving teeth 72 of the beam 64b, the beam also having tabs 80, 82 which co-operate with the flat face of the member 40b to maintain the beam in a vertical plane. The panels are supported at their edges by wire-hung, inverted T-section frames. The specification also discloses, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) a non-inventive panel including a reinforcement member formed by adhering half of a flat plate to the panels rear surface and bending the plate to form an L shaped reinforcement.
