Abstract

1395824 Wrapped filament bundles HARTFORD FIBRES Ltd 26 May 1972 24947/72 Heading B8G [Also in Division D1] A bundle of parallel textile filaments, helically wrapped to prevent snagging with at least one yarn laid in one direction and with at least one yarn laid in the opposite direction and passing over the first yarn, is packed into a container in the form of lengths laid alongside and in contact with each other. A filament bundle 7, Fig. 1, is drawn through packages 12 from which wrapper yarns are withdrawn over end. The yams may be tensioned, e.g. each yarn being tensioned differently. The wrapped bundle is snaked into container 16. The packed bundle may be fed to a stapling machine, e.g. having a vertically reciprocating cutting knife, the wrapper yarns maintaining the filaments parallel during cutting. The filaments may be continuous, e.g. of polyester, nylon, polyethylene, polypropylene, cuproammonium, rayon and acetate, or may be discontinuous, e.g. natural fibres. The wrapper yarns may have the same composition and denier per filament as the bundle.
