Abstract

139,581. Hearn, R. K. Feb. 14, 1919. Resistances. - A heating - resistance consists of a ribbon of nickelchrome or other conductor a wound on edge, the turns being separated from one another by material which burns off on heating, as by winding with an intervening strip of paper or by coating with enamel or varnish. The coil is then attached to a slab b of fire-clay cement by a thin layer of wet cement. When this is hard, the paper or enamel is burnt off. The interstices may be filled with tire-clay cement, in which the element may be embedded. According to the Provisional Specification, the element may be held in the air free from contact with its base, the convolutions being held by small pellets of cement between them, or by bars of cement laid across. The element may be of rectangular or other shape.
