Abstract

1395798 Endless tracks BAYCHEM CORP 23 June 1972 [25 June 1971] 29560/72 Heading B7H A tread segment has one retaining tongue 3a located at each end and on opoosite sides with at least one inner tongue 3, each aperture 10a in the retaining tongues comprising an outer part of non-circular cross-section which does not allow rotational freedom of a retaining pin 12 of similar cross-section, and an inner part of cross-section which permits a predetermined degree of rotation of the pin, the inner tongues 3 also having apertures 10 allowing such predetermined rotation. In a preferred embodiment the pin 12 and outer part of apertures 10a have oval cross-sections and those of the inner part and apertures 10 are triangular. As shown in Fig. 2 two adjacent segments are aligned so that the retaining tongues have their apertures 10a aligned for insertion of pin 12 which is entrapped therein following subsequent tensioning of the tread segments. The pin 12 may be metal, rubber, or plastics and the tread members may comprise a thermoplastics resin having a steel blank (14) Fig. 5 (not shown) embedded therein for reinforcement. Openings 5 are provided in the segment for receiving teeth of a driving means such as a sprocket.
