Abstract

1395669 Coated metal articles PYRENE CHEMICAL SERVICES LTD 2 Nov 1973 [7 Nov 1972] 51033/73 Heading B2E Lubricant coatings are formed on metal articles by moving a vessel containing the articles and an aqueous coating composition so that there is relative movement between them while the temperature is maintained at 50-150‹C and evaporating at least a major proportion of the water, the coating composition being present in amount to provide 5.50 grams non-aqueous coating ingredients per square metre of surface of the articles and comprising phosphoric acid suspended material having a stratified lattice structure and a tenside. Suitable stratified materials are molybdenum and tungsten disulphides, boron nitride and graphite. Suitable tensides are non-ionic cationic, anionic and anpheoteric surface active agents. 'Oleic acid imidazoline derivatives are preferred. Thickening agents such as bentonites, finely divided silica, cellulose derivatives, polysacchorides and polyacrylamides, heavy metal cations, e.g. zinc, calcium, manganese, iron and magnesium, film formers, e.g. synthetic resin aspersions, antifran agents and accelerators, e.g. nitrates, nitrites and hydrogen peroxide, may be present. Resilient bodies may be present, which may 'be abraded to yield material having a lubricating action, e.g. polypropylene, polyamide and polymeric fluorinated hydrocarbons. The vessel may be a drum barrel, trough or channel. The bodies may be preheated or the evaporation may be effected by heating or by applying air. A neutralising agent may be added towards the end of the evaporation.
