Abstract

1395322 Discharging hoppers J W TILLS 4 May 1972 [7 May 1971] 13800/71 Heading B8S [Also in Division G1] A weighing hopper 1 of weighing apparatus (see Division G1) is fed with granular or pulverulent material from above by a feed hopper 2, whose discharge is controlled in response to load signals from the weighing hopper 1. The outlet control apparatus for the feed hopper having an outlet passage 15 for gravity discharge of the material, comprises a control member 17 supported beneath and adjacent the passage 15 and having a larger circumference than the outlet passage, the member 17 being vertically adjustable relative to the passage and being mounted on springs 20 whereby the member 17 may be vibrated to disturb the material supported thereon for discharge into the weighing hopper 1. The solid control member 17 is attached to an annular sieve portion 18 of a tray 16 through which the material passes for discharge, the vibration of the tray and control member being effected by a piston and cylinder 21, e.g. pneumatically operated. A sleeve 19 is vertically movable on the outlet passage 15 to produce a gap between the outlet and the member 17 related to the angle of repose of the material such that no material will spill to the sieve portion 18 whilst the plate is not vibrated.
