1395218 N-substituted amides SUN RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO 16 May 1972 [17 May 1971] 22883/72 Heading C2C Amides of formula R<SP>1</SP>CONHR, where R is a secondary or tertiary acyclic branched or alicyclic hydrocarbon group of 3-12 carbon atoms and R<SP>1</SP> is alkyl (saturated or unsaturated), aryl or aralkyl of 1-20 carbon atoms, and the aryl groups may contain inert substituents, are prepared by reacting R<SP>1</SP>CN with ROOR or ROOH in an alcohol-acid medium, the acid being a concentrated mineral acid, a sulphonic acid or an acid-treated molecular sieve.
