1394686 Friction clutch AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 28 Aug 1973 [29 Aug 1972] 40037/72 Heading F2C In a multiplate friction clutch wherein a clutch plate 10 is clamped between an intermediate presser plate 13 and a flywheel 12, and a clutch plate 11 is clamped between intermediate presser plate 13 and a presser plate 14, with the clutch engaged, radially outer portions 20 of the presser plate 13 have tubular members 23 in bores 24 (see Fig. 2, a section on the line II-II of Fig. 1) for adjustment of the position of presser plate 13 in the clutch disengaged condition, the end 26 of member 23 contacting the flywheel 12 when the clutch is engaged so that the member 23 is moved in its bore 24 as the plate 10 wears, the end 27 of member 23 contacting a resiliently mounted plate 28 in a cavity 30 of a spacer ring 16 fixed to the flywheel on clutch disengagement, to limit movement in the disengaging direction. Straps 17 interconnect presser plate 13 and spacer ring 16 to bias the plate 13 away from flywheel 12 and straps 18 interconnect presser plate 14 and the ring 16. The presence of the resiliently mounted plate 28 is stated to prevent vibration altering the adjusted position of tube 23 whilst the clutch is disengaged. The tube 23 is of spring steel and has an axial gap 25 so that it is an interference fit in bore 24. The clutch is held engaged by a diaphragm spring 19.
