Abstract
1335865 Positive clutches TATRA NARODNI PODNIK 18 June 1971 [22 June 1970] 28742/71 Heading F2C A baulked, friction synchronized positive clutch for a change speed gear has means to disengage synchronizing rings 5, 6 from cooperating friction surfaces on gears 20, 19 in both the clutch engaged and disengaged conditions. The synchronizing rings 5, 6 on opposite sides of a hub 7 are respectively connected to alternate thrust members 1 by projections 2 on the thrust members engaging grooves 3, 4 in the synchronizing rings. The thrust members 1 have radial bores 8 housing spring pressed balls 10 engageable with recesses 11, 12, 13 in an axially slidable clutch sleeve 14. The bores 8 are axially offset by a distance A from bores 21 in the hub 7 which house the other ends of the springs 9. The bores 8 in alternate thrust member 1 are axially offset in opposite direction. The recesses 11, 12, 13 in the sleeve 14 adjacent alternate thrust members are a mirror image of the recesses shown. Operation.-Initial rightward axial movement of the clutch sleeve 14 acts through the ball 10 and thrust member 1 to move the synchronizing ring 5 into engagement with the friction surface on the gear 20. Further movement of the sleeve 14 is baulked until synchronism is obtained. On synchronism the sleeve 14 completes its rightward movement for clutch engagement and the ball 10 moves into the recess 13. The inclined portion of the recess 13 acts through the ball 10 and thrust member 1 to move the synchronizing ring 5 out of frictional engagement with a gear 20 whilst the clutch is engaged. During clutch disengagement the synchronizing ring 5 remains out of frictional engagement with a gear 20. During leftward movement of the clutch sleeve 14 the alternate thrust members 1 provide a similar action to the above on the synchronizing ring 6. When the clutch sleeve 14 is engaged with the gear 19 the inclined portion of the recess 12 acts through the ball 10 and thrust member 1 to hold the synchronizing ring 5 out of engagement with the gear 20.
