Abstract

1394371 Photographic silver halide emulsions ILFORD Ltd 5 April 1973 [5 April 1972] 15614/72 Heading G2C Latent image regression in photographic silver halide emulsions, especially in those hardened by halotriazinyl, halotriphospha-triazinyl or halodiazinyl hardening agents, is reduced by the addition of a compound of one of the general formulae:- wherein R 1 and R 2 are each alkyl or aralkyl both of which may be substituted, allyl, carbamyl, alkyl-O-CO-, aralkyl-O-CO- or R3 CO- where R 3 is alkyl, aralkyl or aryl all of which may be substituted, and R 2 may additionally be H; X is an anion; n is 0 or 1; x is 0, 1 or 2; y is 1 or 2 and D is O or S, but excluding methionine. Specified compounds are ethionine, S-methyl- L-cysteine, S-carboxymethyl-L-cysteine, S-carbamyl-L-cysteine, S-ethyl-L-cysteine, S-allyl-L-cysteine, S-benzyl-L-cysteine and S-carbobenzyloxy-L-cysteine and its hydrochloride. The hardening agent specified is 4- (2:4-dichloro-1:3:5-triazinylamino) benzene sulphonic acid used in conjunction with 1:4- diaza-bicyclo-(2:2:2)-octane.
