Abstract

1394236 Impulse transducers NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 17 Aug 1973 [5 June 1972] 26055/72 Heading G1N A transducer for sensing mechanical impulses comprises an elastic dielectric element 1 (Fig. I) of polymer material e.g. polyethylene, mounted on a first electrode 2 and with a second electrode 3 supported mainly out of contact whereby a series of mechanical impulses 7 causing electrode 3 to make contact with the dielectric 1 causes the dielectric to become electrically charged and produce electrical pulses which are taken off the electrodes by a coaxial cable 5 and counted. The transducer is mounted in a rigid casing with a flexible cover, providing an hermetically sealed unit filled with dry air, and set in a road for use in traffic control equipment.
