Abstract

1393954 Needle DENNISON MFG CO Ltd 30 June 1972 [30 June 1971] 30792/72 Heading D1G A needle 12 comprises a hollow blade 80 provided with a longitudinal slot 86, and a shank 81 having a bore and a slot in alignment with that of the blade, the blade being held in place within the shank. The blade may be of metal and the shank of plastics, the latter being moulded around a shoulder 87 and a keyway 89 to hold the parts together. The shank presents a cutting notch 90 employed to sever a bar fastener (16, Fig. 2 not shown) from its pipe (17) when the needle 12 is employed in a fastener attachment device comprising a plunger 23 driven by an air operated piston 21 to force a bar of the fastener through the needle to secure a button to clothing or layers of material together. On the return stroke of the piston its camming edge 22 rocks lever 43 to actuate a fastener feed wheel 40 by its ratchet 42 to present a bar of the next fastener, on the pipe (17), adjacent to the plunger and needle. The device is generally similar to that disclosed in Specification 1355715.
