Abstract

1393577 Extruded building column S KURODA 31 Oct 1972 50029/72 Heading B5A [Also in Division E1] A panel, post or column is formed by extruding a solely thermoplastics material around a plastics or metal pipe 2 so as to from a rectangular section, polythene, polypropylene, P.V.C. or like plastics or foamed plastics element which may also incorporate reinforcements in the form of I-beams, sheets, wires or glass fibres. The surfaces of the element may be smooth, rough or corrugated and the element may be provided with rubber or plastics end caps which in the case of a post may be tapered for penetration of the ground. The pipe(s) 2 may be of steel, aluminium or the same material as the port or column matrix, the elements in the form of tongued and grooved panels may be fixed to a base board by through bolts (61, Fig. 4, not shown). The pipes 2 are delivered by rollers 2 through passages 12<SP>1</SP> of an extrusion head 12 which applies the thermoplastics, the extruded column being pulled out through a cooling tank 17 by a roller 18 and cut to length by a cutter 19.
