Abstract

1393497 Dyestuff dispersions CIBA-GEIGY AG 15 Feb 1973 [24 Feb 1972] 7481/73 Heading D1B Dyestuff preparations which are liquid or solid are prepared by comminution, using balls or sand, of a water insoluble dyestuff or a very sparingly water-soluble dye the concentration of dye being 20% to 60% by weight to a particle size less than 10Á in an organic solvent of unlimited aqueous solubility in the presence of 0.1% to 10% by weight of a grinding assistant soluble in the solvent which is a cellulose ester or ether, the mechanical grinding agent optionally being removed and sufficient cellulose derivatives then being added to give at least 2% by weight of the total preparation and 10% to 100% by weight of the amount of dyestuff, the organic solvent optionally being removed by dilution with water and filtration or by evaporation. Preferably the dye is a disperse dye which is vapourised at atmospheric pressure at a temperature from 160‹C to 220‹C. The cellulose ester or ether may be hydroxypropyl cellulose, ethoxyethyl cellulose or ethyl cellulose, the preferred organic solvents being methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, diacetone alcohol, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone or methyl glycol. Polyester material may be printed with paper web printed with the dye compositions by a heat transfer process.
