Abstract

1393447 Electric beam magnetic deflecting systems PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 23 May 1972 [26 May 1971] 24142/72 Heading H1D [Also in Divisions H3-H5] A deflection coil system for a camera tube also serves as a focusing coil and comprises two coaxial helical coils 45 and 47, Fig. 4, arranged so that the normals 43 and 44 to the mean planes of the turns of each coil lie at opposite acute angles to the axis. The magnetic field generated by each coil is directed along the respective normal 43 or 44 and the coils may be connected to a deflection current source in anti-phase so that the axial components of the magnetic field cancel whereas the transverse components add, and to a direct current source in phase so that the transverse components cancel whilst the axial components reinforce to provide a focusing field. Preferably there are two pairs of coils, the inner pair for frame deflection and the outer pair for line deflection. The inclination of the normals 43 and 44 should be 3-20 degrees, and the coils should extend between the electron gun and the target.
