Abstract

1393102 Fishing rods BRUCE & WALKER Ltd J BRUCE and K G WALKER 25 April 1973 [25 Jan 1972] 3521/72 Heading A1A [Also in Division F2] A fishing rod is formed from a tube of a composite material comprising resin-bonded glass fibres and resin-bonded carbon fibres with the carbon fibres either randomly orientated or lying in directions substantially transverse to the length of the tube. The glass fibres may be in the form of a woven cloth and the carbon fibres can also be incorporated in cloth form or the tube can incorporate a composite cloth of glass fibres and carbon fibres. The carbon fibres can have lengths between 1/64 inch and 7 inches and amount to between 2% and 25% by volume of the amount of glass fibres. In making the tube the carbon fibres 11 can be arranged in as a strip 12 on a glass fibre cloth 10 and wrapped around a mandrel so that the carbon fibres are sandwiched between layers of glass fibres.
