Abstract

1392807 Repairing tubes DUNLOP Ltd 1 May 1972 [4 May 1971] 12991/71 Heading F2P [Also in Division B2] A metal carrier or container is sealed against leakage by applying a first layer of sealing material based on polyisobutylene or butyl rubber and a second layer of protective material selected from polychloroprene, acrylonitrile copolymer, polyvinyl acetate, shellac, epoxy resin, polyurethane, polyamide, polyvinyl chloride and polyolefines. The sealing material may be extended with bitumen, oil, pitch, wax, asbestos and calcium carbonate. The polyolefine of the protective layer may be polypropylene, polyethylene. An additional protective layer may be present. The protective material may be applied to the sealing layer as a liquid, e.g. by brushing, spraying or as a preformed strip optionally adhered to the sealing material by an adhesive, either before or after the sealing layer has been applied to the carrier or container. The sealing layer may be preformed or formed in situ, e.g. by extrusion. The inside or the outside of the container or carrier may be sealed e.g. a gas pipe may be sealed internally.
