Abstract

1392478 Moulding a concrete step unit MARLEY BUILDINGS Ltd 13 Sept 1973 [16 Nov 1972] 52971/72 Heading B5A [Also in Division E1] A mould for forming a concrete step unit comprises two elongate side walls 1, 2 connected together (detachably, permanently or hinged) along a longitudinal edge to define a V-shaped trough, the ends of the trough being closed by end plates 4 at least one of which is slidable along the trough to adjust its length. Bars 11 and 14 are secured by bolts 12 one on each side wall 1, 2 at an adjustable height, to form complementary birds mouth and chamfered edges to the step unit. The or each movable end plate 4 is recessed to slide over the bars 11, 14 and to allow for their height adjustment, any open recess being closed by cover-plates 19, 20. The end plate 4 having a reinforcing rib 5 is attached to a clamping bar 8 that embraces lips 9, 10 on the side plates 1, 2 and is locked in position by bolts 26. Blocks 21 adjacent each end define stooling recesses in the step unit, and slide along the birds mouth bar 11; additional blocks (not shown) define baluster recesses. Concrete is cast, trowelled and hardened with the mould in the position of Fig. 3. The mould is then pivoted about the trough base in both directions so that the end plates and sides are removed, when uppermost, from the cast unit. Finally, the blocks 21 and cover-plates 19, 20 are removed.
