Abstract
1392184 Anthraquinone cationic dyes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 4 May 1972 [24 May 1971] 16623/71 Heading C4P Dyestuffs, free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups, have the general formula wherein X is a nitro or amino group Y<SP>(+)</SP> is an organic group containing a cationic group and Z<SP>(-)</SP> is an anion. Y<SP>(+)</SP> is preferably -A-Q<SP>(+)</SP> where A is a linking group, e.g. m- or pphenylene optionally linked to Q<SP>(+)</SP> via an aliphatic group, and Q<SP>(+)</SP> is quaternary ammonium, cyclammonium, hydrazinium, sulphonium, isothiouronium, etherified hydroxylammonium or phosphonium group. They are prepared by (a) alkylation of a corresponding anthraquinone compound preferably in presence of an acid binding agent, (b) reacting an anthraquinone compound containing a group -NH-G where G contains a halogen atom or a sulphate ester group with a tertiary amine or (c) reacting 5-nitro-4-aminochrysazin with a compound Y<SP>(+)</SP>-NH 2 Z<SP>(-)</SP> in presence of boric acid at 50‹ C. or above preferably in presence of a phenolic compound as solvent. The dyes give green-blue shades on acid-modified polyesters, -polyamides and polymers and copolymers of acrylonitrile or dicyanoethylene.
