Abstract

1479948 Halogenated azo dyes and heavy metal complexes thereof CIBA-GEIGY AG 4 Oct 1974 [29 Oct 1973] 43153/74 Heading C4P The invention comprises dyes of Formula I and heavy metal complexes thereof, where D is the radical of a carbocyclic aromatic or heterocyclic diazo component, R is OH, NH 2 or the radical of an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic amine, R 1 is H, C 1-4 alkyl, aryl, NH 2 , OH, or the radical of a hydroxy or amino compound attached through the oxygen or nitrogen of its hydroxy or amino group or, if R is OH, R 1 may also be halogen and X is halogen, which may be prepared by halogenating corresponding dyes which do not contain X in an anhydrous, organic, polar solvent. The metal complexes may be formed before or after the halogenation. The dyes of Formula I and their metal complexes give blue or green shades when used to dye nitrogenous materials, such as silk, leather, wool and synthetic polyamides. The dyes may also be used to colour paints, varnishes, cellulosic materials and polyacrylonitrile fibres.
