Abstract

1391895 Easy open containers AMERICAN CAN CO 8 March 1973 [13 March 1972] 11392/73 Heading B8D A can end comprises a flat metal panel 15 including an orifice 17 bounded by an upstanding cutting edge (23, Figs. 3 and 5), and a membrane 25 bonded to the edge (23) and to the panel around the orifice 17 and which includes a free pull tab 27. The membrane is cut through along lines 29. The membrane may be formed of a resin of polyethylene copolymerized with acrylic acid blended with talc and silicon, a metal foil sandwiched between plastics material or a laminate comprising polyvinylidene chloride sandwiched between polyethylene. Bonding between the membrane and the panel 15 is by a heat activated adhesive or heat sealing.
