Abstract

1391878 Non woven fabric MONSANTO CO 21 May 1973 [22 May 1972 2 Feb 1973] 24056/73 Headings D1R and D2B [Also in Division C3] Binding agents for non-woven fibrous materials consist of an interpolymer made from (a) ethylene (preferably at least 5%) (b) vinyl chloride (at least 30%) (c) acrylamide or a mixture thereof with methacrylamide, an N- alkyl (meth) acrylamide, an unsaturated carboxylic acid, salt, alkyl ester or hydroxyalkyl ester thereof or an (meth) acrylyl amide of an aminoalkanoic acid (0.1-10%) and (d) an N-(C 1 -C 10 ) alkoxymethyl (meth) acrylamide (0.1-10%). They are prepared by emulsion technique and in Examples (c) is acrylamide or a mixture with N-methylacrylamide, N- methylmethacrylamide, maleic acid, 2-hydroxyethyl fumaric acid or aconitic acid. The products may be hydrolytically modified by treatment with alkali or acid and cross link on heating. In an example a non-woven cellulose nylon fibre fabric is immersed in a latex of such a copolymer, dried and calendered. The non-woven fabric may be formed from natural and/or synthetic fibres.
