1391404 Pads SABLE FRERES INTERNATIONAL 4 June 1973 [6 June 1972 17 May 1973] 26586/73 Heading A4F [Also in Divisions B3 and B4] A device for pumicing, polishing, cleaning or wiping surfaces comprises apertured rectangular surface treating plates 2 threaded on a rigid armature formed e.g. by rods 3, 4 extending from both ends of a plate 7, the four larger faces of the block 1 being formed by the edges of the plates 2. A support member 8 for a handle 11 is mounted on the plate 7 by a pivot pin 9 releasably held by a circlip or ball detent, so that the member 8 may be readily detached and mounted on the opposite side of the plate 7. All faces of the working block 1 are thus useable. The plates 2 may be of a material or materials selected from fibrous material coated with abrasive particles, glass wool, pumice, felt, chamois leather, and rubber. The support member 8 is adjustable about the pin 9 and held in a desired angular position by a detent 14 engaging indentations 15 in the plate 7. The detent 14 is integral with a slider 13 on the member 8 retained in position by a leaf-spring 8A. The rod type handle 11 may be replaced by a curved handle 12, Fig.8 (not shown). In a further embodiment the plate 7 and rods 3, 4 are replaced by a plate 16, Fig. 11 (not shown), covered throughout its length by the elements 2, a support member (20) for a handle being secured by a screw on a plate (26) fixed to the block 1. A washer (32) on the screw has a tongue (31) engageable in a hole in the plate (26) to lock the handle in a selected angular position relative to the block 1.
