Abstract

1390935 Aerials; radio signalling; radio receiving apparatus C & S ANTENNAS Ltd 21 March 1972 [22 March 1971] 7488/71 Headings H4A H4L and H3Q A microwave radio station comprises a container 10, Fig. 2, with. a side wall 14, a floor (18), Fig. 3 (not shown), a domed roof (20), and a supporting post (12). The side wall 14 is made of sheet steel and is of polygonal shape, having eight sides 16, in one of which is an aperture containing a circular plano-convex polyethylene microwave lens 22. The lens is supported on a mounting ring 24 from which four rods 26 extend into the container. A microwave transmitter 28, having a radiating horn 30 generally directed towards the lens 22, is adjustably mounted on the rods 26 by means of set screws 32. The axis of the horn 30 may be directed in a horizontal plane anywhere between the directions 34, which are the bisectors between the apertured side and the two adjacent sides. Similarly, the horn pointing direction may be adjusted vertically. The container 10 may be internally lined with graphite-loaded polyurethane foam, to absorb unwanted radiation, and radial flanges may be provided on the outside between the apertured side and the adjacent sides, to reduce any backwardly directed lobe. The transmitter 28 may be replaced by a receiver, or both a transmitter and a receiver may be provided in the case of a repeater station. Said transmitter and receiver may operate through a single lens at different angles, or respective lenses may be fitted in two sides of the container.
