Abstract

1390718 Valves KARL M REICH MASCHINENFABRIK GmbH 8 Aug 1973 [17 Aug 1972] 37645/73 Heading F2V A differential valve member 7 controlled by an auxiliary valve 34 is locked in the closed position by a bolt 24 until pressure fluid is supplied to a passage 5 in the housing which may contain a pneumatic hammer for driving nails, staples or other fasteners into a workpiece. Connection of a compressed air supply to the passage 5 increases the pressure in spaces 10 and 26 to lift the valve 7 slightly from the position shown and to withdraw the bolt 24 against a spring 22. A restricted bore 28 ensures that the valve is lifted before the bolt is withdrawn. When the auxiliary valve is operated, the space 10 is connected to atmosphere to allow the valve to be pushed down into the open position by compressed air acting on its upper face 13. Compressed air is now able to flow through ports 15 to actuate the piston 3 of the hammer. The bolt 24 remains in the withdrawn position until the air supply is disconnected from the housing.
