Abstract
1390621 Device for extracting blood W SARSTEDT [trading as WALTER SARSTEDT KUNSTSTOFF-SPRITZGUSSWERK] 27 Feb 1972 [27 March 1971 13 Oct 1971] 53612/71 Heading A5R [Also in Division B8] A device for extracting blood from the human body and storing it for testing or processing (e.g. centrifuging) comprises a tube 1 in which is a piston 4 and tapered piston rod 2, the piston being apertured and the rod 2 being hollow so that when a needle 9 is mounted on the rod it may be used to collect blood in the tube through the rod and piston, there being a closure member (10) having a conical recess 15 (Figure 4) such that it may be used to close the hollow piston rod before use of the device (Figure 3, not shown) the closure member also having a plug part 11 such that it may be used to close the tube 1 (Figure 6, not shown) when the piston and rod have been removed. In use, blood is drawn into the tube by sliding the tube away from the needle, piston rod, and piston assembly, elongate fins 3 on the rod contacting the inside surface of the tube. The tube may be charged with a substance (unspecified) capable of supressing coagulation of the blood or, alternatively, a chemically inert granular material may be provided in the tube, the granular material having glass particles or fibres embedded in the outer surfaces of the grains such granular material having the effect of accelerating the blood coagulation.
