Abstract
139,047. Molins, W. E. March 28, 1919. Feeding cigarettes and the like.-In apparatus for collecting and conveying cigarettes and like articles so that they may be readily counted or grouped by hand or machinery for packing purposes, of the type in which a fluted cylinder b rotates in a hopper a, endless chains or bands d, running at a higher speed than the peripheral speed of the cylinder, are provided to remove the cigarettes or the like from the flues. The chains or bands d are mounted in peripheral grooves b<2> in the cylinder, or on rollers or sprocket-wheels at the sides of the cylinder. When chains are used, the links bear a definite relation to the pitch of the flutes, and the chains are driven by sprocket-wheels f mounted on a shaft k which is driven from the shaft i carrying the cylinder b through gear-wheels j, j<2>, j<1>. A roller g driven by the shaft i rotates above the cylinder to prevent more than one cigarette at a time from being carried out of the hopper by each flute.
