Abstract
1390259 Packaging ice-cream NEUMO Ltd 22 Aug 1973 [24 Aug 1972] 39420/72 Heading B8C [Also in Division F1] Gasified fluid material, e.g. ice-cream, is delivered to a package 24 at a filling station on a conveyer 27 by a pump 4 with a piston 5 actuated by an air motor 7, 8, the ice-cream being supplied under pressure to the pump via an inlet 1 and a rotary valve 2 actuated by a pneumatic cylinder 11, and being discharged via valve 2 and a delivery device 19 to container 24. For the priming stroke of piston 5, low pressure air is supplied to motor 7, 8 sufficient to overcome friction, so that the ice-cream supply pressure moves the pistons to the right without compression of the ice-cream, high pressure air being supplied to the motor to effect the discharge stroke. Outlet pipe 18 has a telescopically slidable tube 19 with interposed seals 20-22. Tube 19 and its flange 23 are heated by a hot water coil (33), Fig. 4 (not shown), to provide an ice seal and a wet sliding bearing. A movable stop (35) holds tube 19 in its upper position until the discharge stroke commences. Extension and retraction of tube 19 may be power-assisted. The filling station of the conveyer 27 has arms 25, 26 which raise the container 24 to be filled, tube 19 then being lowered and delivery effected. Arms (31-33), Fig. 3 (not shown), on either side of the container prevent bulging of its walls during filling. At the end of the delivery cycle, arms 25, 26 are operated to drop the container 24 to break the flow of ice-cream, tube 19 being retained by the movable stop (35). The piston stroke is adjustable to vary the quantity delivered. For large containers, the piston may perform a pre-selected number of strokes to fill each container.
