1390155 Cylindrical calculator J R HARTE 31 July 1973 36381/73 Heading G4B A calculator comprises a cylindrical core 10, bearing a grid of data 13 and other data 12, a sleeve 15, surrounding the core and rotatable relative thereto and bearing data 17, and an outer tube 19, surrounding the sleeve 15 and rotatable and axially movable relative to the sleeve. The sleeve and tube may be respectively formed with circumferential and axial windows. In the arrangement shown, however, sleeve 15 and tube 19 have axial and circumferential windows 16 and 20, respectively which coincide to reveal one number of grid 13, which number is the product of the number revealed by window 20 of data 17 and the number revealed by window 16 of data 12. Sleeve 15 may include a transparent sheath, Fig. 3 (not shown). Core 10 may be transparent and end caps 11 may be removable for replacement of a data-carrying cylinder within the transparent body of the core. Instead of multiplication, the calculator may relate to great circle air distances or currency conversion, Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown). The calculator may be combined with a ball-point pen, Fig. 6 (not shown).
