Abstract
1390124 Feeding and collating sheets K SYROVATKA 24 March 1972 [26 March 1971] 13928/72 Heading B8R Writing-paper sheets are separated in turn from a plurality of piles at stations I-VI, Fig. 1, by fuction or pneumatic rollers A1 and fed by rollers A2, A3 to a belt A4, the rollers A1 being rotated at such times as to form on the belt an overlapping or non-overlapping stream of sheets comprising one from each pile. Each sheet is registered at B and then fed by rollers C to a numbering and perforating cylinder D1, where a transverse line of perforations is formed, and thence to a point X. Meanwhile, carbon paper is fed from a roll H, cut into sheets by cutters J, and the sheets fed by a belt J1 to a device K which produces a line of glue or paste on both sides, and thence to the point X. One writing sheet and one carbon sheet occurs at X together and are attached together by the glue and then deposited on a plate G where it becomes similarly attached to a preceding sheet pair, so that finally a copying set is formed of six writing sheets with interleaved carbon sheets all attached together along a transverse line near one edge. At each station there is provided a photo-electric sensor comprising a light or infra-red radiation source A5, Fig. 2, and a receiver A6. In normal operation, when a sheet reaches the light flash, the reduced light intensity at the receiver A6 de-energizes a relay R to stop the roller A1 by means of an electro-magnetic coupling VK, Figs. 2 and 3. The light intensity of the source A5 is then increased so that the relay is reenergized so that the sheet is fed onwards. If double feed has occurred, the relay R is not registered, and by a contact R<SP>1</SP> a defect lamp L is lighted and the machine stopped, while if no sheet is fed, failure of the relay to be deenergized has the same effect. The switches U controlling the machine stoppage in conjunction with the contact R<SP>1</SP> are controlled by cams on a shaft StW. The number of stations may be other than six, and the speed of the camshaft is modified accordingly. Similar sensors may be used to detect correct alignment at B or of the carbon sheets after cutting.
