1389761 Vehicle container lifting and tipping mechanism MASCHINENFABRIK FAHR AG 11 Jan 1973 [28 Jan 1972] 1452/73 Heading B8E A trailer for lifting and tipping a container 6 comprises a lift arm 4 pivotally connected between the vehicle U-shaped frame and upper beams 5 which engage the container. Lifting is effected by rams 12 under the control of a guide rod 7 in two pivotally connected parts 8, 9. A telescopic strut 13 connects the forward ends of the beams 5 to the vehicle frame and comprises interengaging tubular members 14, 15, Fig. 4, the former having a pawl 16 which engages with studs 17, 38 of the latter. An arresting device 27, Fig. 5, is provided at the free end of rod part 9 comprising a pivoted pawl 29 and a pawl 31 connected by a spring 32 thereto. Extension of the rams 12 wiil initially raise the beams 5 to engage and lift the container 6 while held level by the guide rod 7 which cannot contract since the end of the part 9 is engaged by the stop pawl 29 until the stud 17 enters the notch 20 of the pawl 16 and extension of the rams 12 is stopped. When the rams 12 are stopped the beams 5 will fall slightly under the weight of the container 6 causing the stud 17 to move along a slot 21 and by a Bowden cable withdraw a catch 37 from the stop pawl 29. At the same time a pull is exerted on the part 9 causing a stop 30 to engage pawl 31 pivoting it and through the spring 32 moving the pawl 29 to the inoperative position. Further extension of the rams 12 now causes the beams 5 to pivot to tip the container 6 since the guide rod 7 can now move into the arresting device 27. After tipping as the beams 5 lower the rod 7 contracts so that a collar 33 restores the pawls 31, 29 so that the latter is again in the arresting position when the end of the part 9 has passed it. In a modified construction, Figs. 7, 9, a guide rod 38 is pivoted at 40 to a guidepiece 39 in a groove 41 of which a roller 42 attached to the lift arm 4 runs. A catch 52 stops movement of the rod 38 unless it is retracted by a Bowden cable 45 actuated through a diaphragm pump 44 when a stud 49 acts through an arresting device 43 on the pump 44 to allow tipping after a small fall of the arms 5 as in the previous example.
