Abstract

1389518 Machinery guards OTTO FUCHS 4 May 1973 [6 May 1972] 21338/73 Heading F2J A number of protective casings 1 are arranged one for each of a number of adjacent high speed rotors (not shown) and are formed on their external periphery with a number of ribs 4 and channels 6 by which the cluster of casings 1 are positively interengaged such that in the event of the destruction of a rotor the kinetic energy of the centrifugally exploding fragments is transmitted from the directly impacted surrounding casing to the adjacent casings so that the released energy is progressively absorbed and the directly impacted casing is prevented from being turned. The casing cluster interengaging ribs 4 and channels 6 are such that when a rotor is stationary its protective casing may be drawn off axially without substantially impairing the composite function of the remaining protective casings. The casings 1 may be of aluminium and formed by extrusion or moulding.
